ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday filed an application with the police against State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb, for allegedly not allowing them to hold a press conference at the Press Information Department (PID).

In the complaint, PTI stated that it also had a right to hold press conferences at the PID as it was also part of the Parliament.

Earlier on Thursday, PTI leaders were stopped from holding a press conference at the PID. The administration had locked the main gate and did not allow PTI’s leaders to enter.

“We will increase our efforts and will put forward our demands during our gathering on Friday,” PTI Spokesperson Naeemul Haq said while talking to the media outside PID. “The government spreads lies about us the every other day here at the PID,” Naeemul Haq said. He said that PTI had formally sought permission to hold a press conference in PID.

He alleged that government was trying to hide the report of the Dawn leaks case as it had done in the case of the Model Town inquiry report. He urged the government to make the report public.

PTI leaders Shibli Faraz and Shehryar Afridi exchanged harsh words with the PID officers for not allowing them to enter the premises. Afridi said that the building was not someone’s personal property. “However, we will take all steps to defend the interests of Pakistan,” he said. “The people now know that the government leaders treat public institutions as their property,” Faraz said.
