ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal was issued a notice for contempt of court by the Islamabad High Court (IHC)  on Friday over the sitting government’s failure to end the current protest of religious parties at Islamabad’s major artery Faizabad Interchange.

IHC’s judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui issued the notice when he was hearing a case regarding the protest sit-in that has now entered its third week.

The government and IHC both have already given deadlines to the protesters at the busy Faizabad interchange, however, the protesters are in no mood to move and clear the area until the federal government  removes the serving Law Minister Zahid Hamid from the cabinet.

IHC directed the Interior Ministry to file a report prepared by Raja Zafar-ul-Haq on controversial amendment in Khatm-e-Nabuwat oath to file on Nov 27.

The court has also given a three-day deadline to Islamabad’s administration to shift the ongoing protest to Islamabad’s Parade Ground area.

The protestors belonging to Tehreek-e-Khatm-i-Nabuwwat, Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLY) and the Sunni Tehreek Pakistan (ST) are calling for the sacking of Law Minister Zahid Hamid and a strict action against the people behind the amendment to the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat oath in the Elections Act 2017 which was deemed a ‘clerical’ error and has been rectified by the National Assembly.
