Nawaz Sharif calls out opposition for being ‘anti-democratic’

LAHORE: Disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are anti-democratic.

Addressing the media after an accountability court hearing, he said that the National Assembly (NA) rejected the ‘dictator’s black laws’ on Tuesday when the Election Amendment Bill 2017 was rejected by majority vote. Had it been passed, disqualified parliamentarians would not have been able to head a political party.

He further said that he was disappointed by PPP’s support for the amendment bill. He said that the party’s recent behaviour was in direct opposition to its previous efforts for democracy.

Lashing out at PTI, he said that there was nothing democratic about PTI and he did not even consider it to be a political party because of its alleged link with dictators.
