‘Southern loop of Ring Road to be ready by Dec’

LAHORE: Lahore Division Commissioner and Lahore Ring Road Authority (LRRA) Chairperson Abdullah Khan Sumbal on Tuesday said that the southern loop of Ring Road was nearly complete and it would be ready by December 2017. During a visit to the site, the commissioner showed satisfaction over the pace and standards of work, and said that the final date of inauguration would be given by Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif. Sumbal said that road construction, work on pedestrian bridges, drainages, foundations and installations of electric poles and lights, pipe linings, toll plaza had been completed. He said that ITS system had been installed while work on CCTV is in progress. He said that on six interchanges, horticulture work had been started and it is designed on the Turkish model, which would be eye catching even in nighttime. It is pertinent to mention here that the length of southern loop of Ring Road is 22.35km from Kamahan to Adda Plot (Raiwind) via Gajumatta, while 15 subways have also been constructed for pedestrians and vehicles. During his visit of southern loop, LRRA chairperson said that completion of southern loop till Adda Plot would not only facilitate out also play a vital role in the traffic management of Lahore. He said that on both sides of ring road mini forests would also grown as oxygen pockets. Southern loop of ring road is being constructed by FWO on PPP mode under BOT mode.
