ISLAMABAD: An accountability court hearing a graft reference against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for him after he failed to appear before it for the fourth consecutive time.

Judge Muhammad Bashir issued a notice to the ‘guarantor’ of Ishaq Dar to explain why the minister had failed to appear and ensure his presence on the next hearing.

The court once again dismissed a plea filed by Ishaq Dar seeking exemption from personal appearance on medical grounds. At the onset of the hearing, the court asked Ahmad Ali Quddoosi, a ‘guarantor and pleader’ of Ishaq Dar, why the accused was not present in the court and when he was expected to turn up.

The guarantor informed the court that Dar was presently undergoing cardiac treatment in a health facility in London. He stated that according to his doctors, he would recover in six to eight weeks. He said he would appear before the court just after his recovery. The court then sought a response of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Later, the court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the accused just after resuming the hearing and adjourned the proceedings until November 21.
