Arsenal set to finish below rivals Tottenham for the first time in 22 years

LONDON: Arsene Wenger and his team did little to play down the fact that they are going to finish below their London rivals during the game and in the post-match conference on Sunday.

Wenger who has overseen years of supremacy in north London accepted that “we’ve been beaten by the better team”

Upon being asked about the massive points difference between Arsenal and Tottenham the French coach stated that “Look, the points are the points. They do not come from heaven, you earn them on the pitch. That’s it.”

Clearly not happy with what panned out on the pitch and what clearly had been a dismal performance by the Londoners.

Delle Alli scored the first goal of the match on the 55th minute as a result of the pinballing going on inside the box.

Kane miscontrolled the ball and tried a shot at goal meanwhile Alli latched onto the ball on the rebound, skittered down the right of the box, checked back and passed the ball to fellow midfielder Eriksen who danced towards goal and smeared a low shot that Cech blocked but only managed to push into the path of Alli who buried the ball into the net with a hooked left-foot finish.

Harry Kane scored the second goal exactly 146 seconds after the first, he was helped into a heap in the box by Gabriel and the England international made no mistake when he rifled the ball past Petr Cech on the 58th minute.

Tottenham’s Argentinean manager was full of praise for his side, for getting one over the French manager’s team which coincidentally makes him the first Tottenham manager to trump over Wenger in the league for quite a while, where Arsene Wenger has not lost any of the six north London derbies he has contested in the league, winning two and drawing four.

11 different Tottenham managers failed to do what Pochettino has done.

Talking about Arsenal’s prospects of finishing in the top-four, Wenger stated “It will be very difficult now, but we have to fight. We have a cup final, we have still a chance to get into the top four and we have to recover from Sunday and prepare for our next games.”
