KARACHI: Police on Monday arrested the guard of a private security company along with one of his ‘accomplices’ for their alleged involvement in a bank robbery, and claimed to have recovered the looted money and the vehicle that was used in the incident.
Involvement of security guards in bank robberies has worried law enforcers. It is pertinent to mention that on April 29, a gang of four members had committed robbery at a private bank in Samanabad, FB Area, but because of timely interception by the police, the robbers could not complete their task and the police succeeded in arresting two members of the gang, namely Nasrullah Gopang and Ahmed Arain, while three others managed to flee with the looted cash.
On Monday, Gulberg SP Bashir Brohi during a press conference in his office said that the police have arrested two more members of that gang, identified as Sultan Sheikh and Mazhar Arain. The SP reveled that Sultan was posted at the bank’s branch as a security guard, but he was the actual mastermind of whole incident, who got employment in Pak Security Company as a security guard and got himself posted at the said branch.
The SP further said that the main accused, Sultan, made his other four accomplices visit that bank’s branch a week before the robbery.
Police also recovered the vehicle that was used in the robbery and looted money (around half a million rupees) along with three TT pistols and three repeaters. Efforts are underway to nab the last member of that gang, namely Abid alias Kashif.
