Nawaz Sharif waging a war against judiciary, says Siraj

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP) chief Senator Sirajul Haq has said that Nawaz Sharif has declared a war against judiciary by giving remarks about the Supreme Court, but the process of accountability will not be halted.

Addressing a special meeting of the heads of JI’s Public Relations Wing from all over the country at Mansoora on Friday, he said that instead of glancing over his past and extending a helping hand to the Supreme Court for controlling corruption, Nawaz Sharif was threatening the apex court.

Siraj said that Nawaz Sharif’s remarks had shocked the common man in the country who could not even imagine that a person who had held the high office of the prime minister thrice would stoop so low.

The JI chief made it clear that corruption could not be wiped out without a permanent and strong accountability system, and added that a ruthless accountability of the plunderers was the demand of the entire nation and the need of the hour.

He said that the government had so far not taken any action against the elements behind the bid to amend the laws relating to the finality of prophethood. He said that neither the report of Raja Zafrul Haq committee had been released nor the culprits identified and punished.

Referring to the issue of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), he said that the government was continuously cheating the people of the tribal areas by delaying FATA’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa despite the announcement in this regard. However, he said the tribal people would not withdraw from the demand and it would be better for the rulers to honour their commitments.

Siraj on Thursday had said that self-seeking politicians had always harmed the constitution and democracy, and that a clash with the judiciary was not in the interest of the present government itself. Talking to the media at Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum, he said Nawaz Sharif’s derogatory remarks about the country’s courts were below his status as the PML-N leader.
