Contempt petition filed against Maryam Nawaz

Author: Staff Report

LAHORE: Amna Malik, a member of Civil Society Network, moved a petition before the Lahore High Court on Thursday seeking contempt proceedings against Maryam Nawaz, daughter of disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif, over her alleged contemptuous remarks against judges.

Counsel for the petitioner Muhammad Azhar Siddique said that on November 8, 2017, a press statement was released by the PML-N and its leadership, in which Maryam Nawaz committed a severe contempt of court; ridiculed and scandalised judges. He stated that Maryam also defamed the judges of the superior courts apart from hitting at state institutions, which was also a crime.

He further stated that Absar Alam as chairman of the PEMRA was equally responsible for defaming judges.
