CHAKWAL: At least 24 people lost their lives and round about 60 people were left injured after a bus fell off a bridge in Talagang Dhok Pathan area due to over speeding on Wednesday night.
The bus fell of a height of more than 150 feet according to rescue sources and more than 60 people were injured in the incident.
The passenger bus was reportedly carrying hundred passengers and was headed to Lahore’s Raiwind from Kohat,]
The injured were rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Talagang for medical treatment and the bodies of the deceased were also taken to nearby hospitals for autopsy purposes.
Reports state that the all the victims involved in the accident belonged to Kohat’s Mandarwari village.
Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab, expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the unfortunate accident.
According to official data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, around 9,000 road accidents are reported every year since 2011, killing more than 4,500 people on average annually.
Similar accidents have been taking place in and around this area and it is the need of the hour for the natives and tourists alike to be educated about road rules and regulations so that such incidents can be avoided in the future.
