Death anniversary of late senator Chaudhry Ashraf observed

LAHORE: The 34th death anniversary of former senator Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf-founder of the Ashraf Group of Industries and father of former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Zaka Ashraf-was observed on Wednesday.

Besides politicians and lawmakers, a large number of people from Sindh and Punjab including senior bureaucrats, representatives of local bodies, farmers, industrialists and journalists attended the event. The speakers shed light on the services of the late lawmaker in the fields of agriculture and social work.

Died in November 1983, late Chaudhry Ashraf not only participated in business and social activities but also worked as an activist of national independence movement under the guidance of his uncle Chaudhry Rehmat Khan, a close associate of Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

During the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Chaudhry Ashraf was elected senator from Sindh province. He headed several organisations in Sindh.

His invaluable contribution to social & welfare activities, political field and industrial sector will always be remembered, speakers said at the occasion.
