KARACHI: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a man for allegedly making a hoax call to Sindh High Court, claiming the presence of an explosive device within the court premises. The bomb threat, that later turned out to be a hoax, sent the Sindh High Court into a state of panic on Friday after police received an anonymous call on its helpline in which the caller told the police that a bomb had been planted at the high court’s premises. Following the bomb threat, extra contingent of law enforcers reached at the site and evacuated the premises to avoid any untoward incident. Experts from the bomb disposal squad were also called at the site, however, the bomb disposal squad, declared it a hoax before clearing the premises after two hours. Police officials said that investigation to trace the caller was started following the bomb hoax, and the police officials managed to trace and arrest the accused. The accused was identified as Pir Buksh. Police officials said his arrest was made during a raid conducted at Sawan Goth in Gadap Town. Police officials said that the accused said he had no intentions to place a bomb at the court, and made the call as a joke. Police officials further said that the arrested suspect’s elder brother had been imprisoned for at least two years over a murder charge. The police registered an FIR under The Telegraph Act and The Anti-Terrorism Act against the accused while further investigation was underway.
