LAHORE: The City School Model United Nations (CSMUN) concluded on Sunday at TCS Sports Complex with a colourful award ceremony.

Former education minister Mian Imran Masood, GIFT University Rector Dr Fakharul Islam, The City School Regional Director Iram Yousuf and students from different educational institutions attended the ceremony.

Awards were distributed among best performers of the Model United Nations. Outstanding delegates in each committee were recognised and given certificates.

More than 250 students belonging to 18 schools including The City School, Lahore Grammar School, Aitchison School, LACAS, Sacred Heart School, Pak Turk School, COMSATS University and others participated. The three-day ceremony also featured a music concert and a Qawali night.

Speaking on the occasion, Mian Imran Masood said, “Students are the real ambassadors and representatives of Pakistan who should show the world that we are a peace-loving nation and our goal is to develop leaders of tomorrow by nurturing students of today.”

Recalling his visit of the United Nations General Assembly, he said that that conviction was the main part of leaders whom people love to listen; therefore, students need to focus on conviction.

“Through this event students must understand the real meaning of diplomacy because at international level those countries are successful whose diplomacy is stronger than others.”

Talking to Daily Times, Marketing and Youth Programmes Assistant Manager Asvita Ahsan said that the theme for the Model United Nations for this year was ‘Catalysing Revolution’ where diverse topics ranging from nuclear warfare and the threat of trans-national non-state actors to human rights and gender-based violence and discrimination were addressed.

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations.

Thousands of schools, students across the country and around the world participate in Model United Nations, which involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
