KHYBER AGENCY: After a successful dialogue between Clearing Agents Association Torkham and custom officials, import/export clearing activities resumed at Torkham Custom Centre on Thursday. The activities were suspended for 24 hours, Torkham clearing agents said.
The clearing process was stopped on Wednesday morning when custom officials introduced nine new conditions for exporting trading commodities while five conditions were set for importers and the clearing agents were told all given requirements needed to be fulfilled for the clearing process.
Clearing Agents Association Torkham President Haji Hayatullah said they held a meeting with Torkham Custom Centre Deputy Collector Najeeb-ur-Rehman which was also attended by administration and forces officials.
In the meeting, they discussed their grievances with the custom officials.
It was decided that the custom officials would revise the new conditions introduced for the import/export clearing activities, and clearing would be restarted temporarily with the old procedures in place.
It was also agreed that the matter would be discussed by the custom officials of Pakistan and Afghanistan, he added.
A custom official in Torkham confirmed the development and said clearing activities in Torkham were restarted on Thursday.
