CJP takes notice of Katas Raj Temple’s pond drying up

Author: Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Wednesday took suo moto notice of a news report about the Katas Raj Temple’s pond drying up rapidly due to area’s subsoil water being used by industrial plants.

The CJP also sought a detailed report from the Islamabad archaeology and museum director general, Evacuee Trust Property Board secretary, Lahore Archaeology Department director general and Chakwal deputy commissioner within three days. According to the news report, the pre-historic fabled pond is drying up because of excessive consumption of water by cement factories. The factories are reportedly sucking water through more than 100 drill bores, which have severely reduced the subsoil water level. Moreover, owing to absence of proper water supply for the local areas of Katas Waulah and Choa Saidanshah, almost every home is sucking water by boring.
