ISLAMABAD: Despite the expenditure of huge funds, two dam construction projects face long delays.

The projects are the construction of Charah Dam and the construction of Bara Dam.

A total of Rs 906.47 million has been spent on construction of Charah Dam. However, the project is nowhere near completion.

Regrettably, the work on the Bara Dam has also not been completed. The project was started in 2009.

A document of Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), submitted in Public Accounts Committee (PAC), revealed that the initial expenditure on Charah Dam was more than Rs 5 billion.

The project was approved by Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) on March 3, 2009.

The document said that Rs 1.7 Billion were allocated for the project in 2015-2016 while Rs 906.47 had also been spent.

The construction project was not mentioned in the list submitted by Ministry of Water Resources. Now its PC-I will be revised.

Likewise, the reason for abandonment of Bara Dam was the low priority assigned by Ministry of Water Resources to the project.

More than Rs 1 billion was allocated in fiscal year 2014-15 for the project.
