SUKKUR: The review meeting on anti-encroachment drive under Sukkur Commissioner Usman Chachar, along with officials of irrigation, civic bodies and police, vowed to gear up the ongoing drive on the embankment of three right bank canals of the River Indus.
“Removal of encroachment from public properties and roads should be of prime importance”, the commissioner said.
He directed the deputy commissioner to form a task force committee for monitoring the drive.
Briefing the meeting, DC Raheem Bux said as many as 7,000 households were inhabited at three canals among which there were 195 cemented houses, 44 muddy houses, 2,697 cemented rooms, 625 muddy rooms, 518 makeshift porches and 6 cattle pens. He said more than 2,000 houses had already been demolished and the court’s deadline for removal of encroachment from these canals would expire in March 2018.
