ISLAMABAD/DUBAI: All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Chairman Pervez Musharraf, while addressing newly elected office-bearers of his party in Dubai, said there was no chance of either a martial law or immediate general elections.

“Pakistani politics at the moment revolves around ethnic, racial and lingual basis that is damaging for national interests. We want to establish APML on a national level across the country, representing every Pakistani”, he said.

In Karachi, there is a greater political vacuum that we will fill with a political alliance, Musharraf said. He said Karachi was the best place for such an alliance as the metropolis houses Pakistanis from every nook and corner of the country. “We will form a political alliance in Karachi that will be above all kinds of lingual, ethnic and racial barriers”, said Musharraf.

Musharraf expressed satisfaction over APML’s intra-party election process and congratulated the elected members. He directed workers to honor chain of command in the party. He directed party workers to strengthen the party structure in all regions and districts and organize public meetings to convey party’s message to the public. Commenting about the political landscape of the country, Musharraf said there were three scenarios possible at the moment. First would be to dissolve the incumbent government and announce new elections. Second would be to form a national government and third would be to impose a martial law, which was neither imminent nor possible at the moment.

The second scenario however was feasible, he said. Musharraf said if a new national government was formed by the current mainstream political parties, it will not benefit to the country. He suggested the national government should be formed with the participation of technocrats in it.
