ISLAMABAD: On the directions of the Interior Ministry, an Afghan national, who was serving in federal police, was removed from service. According to reliable sources, an investigation was carried out into the credentials of 1,400 officers, including Afghan national Farooq, appointed in police department. “After completion of the investigation, the Afghan national was removed from his post on the direction of the Interior Ministry,” sources said. Sources said that the Afghan national had appointed after he paid a hefty bribe to a DSP. “Later, some police officers used to blackmail him due to his background and extort money from him,” sources said. However, no action has been taken so far against those responsible for appointing Farooq to the post. According to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the authority had earlier blocked Muhammad Baig’s Computerised National Identity Card, who is Farooq’s father. “His home address was registered as Alipur, Islamabad. However, he resides in an illegal Afghan Basti in Islamabad,” officials said. Sources added that only Farooq’s father’s name was registered among his family members in National Database and Registration Authority records. A spokesperson of the Interior Ministry said that that it was a policy matter. “The Islamabad IG is in a better position to comment on the matter,” the spokesman said.
