LAHORE: Speakers at a session titled ‘Combating Plague of Plagiarism’ on Thursday stressed the need for using technology and latest methods to stop plagiarism, saying that despite efforts by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and universities, plagiarism and other forms of academic cheating were on the rise.

The session was organised by the National Centre for Academic Integrity (NCAI) at the Information Technology University (ITU).

NCAI Director Dr Muhammad Ramzan and ITU Library Manager Muhammad Asif spoke on the occasion, whereas people from different walks of life attended the session. The speakers said that one of the prime purposes of any seat of higher learning was to produce innovative and skilled professionals with high standards of ethics and integrity.

Muhammad Asif said that one of the reasons was ignorance in using the appropriate tools and techniques to avoid plagiarism; however, the NCAI was creating awareness to combat the plague of plagiarism, cheating and academic dishonesty amongst researchers, faculty members, students and other staff in academia.
