ISLAMABAD: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Saturday, requesting it to administer a special oath to the Panamagate joint investigation team (JIT) to ensure they were not influenced by PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s speeches.

The petition has been moved by Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, who is the son of PML-N Senator Chaudhry Tanvir. The petitioner has also requested the top court to stop Khan from influencing the JIT through his speeches and press statements.

The petition, filed under Article 184 (3), claims that Khan’s public statements undermine the April 20 order of the apex court. “They are an effort to influence the expected outcome of the investigation made by the JIT,” the petition states. The petition has made the PTI chief and PEMRA as respondents.

“The acts and speeches of Khan about the Panama Leaks decision and the speculations in respect of the investigation to be carried out by the JIT are not only contemptuous, but also a violation of the oath he took as member of the National Assembly,” the petition states. The petition claims that Khan’s statements about his property in the UK and in Bani Gala were contradictory. “He is no longer sadiq and ameen and his conduct over the years falls under the purview Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution. So he should be disqualified,” the petition states.
