MULTAN: Police on Wednesday arrested Mufti Abdul Qavi hours after he escaped from a sessions court after his application seeking an extension in his pre-arrest bail was rejected in connection with the Qandeel Baloch murder case. Cantonment Super-intendent of Police (SP) Dr Fahad said that Mufti Qavi was taken into custody while travelling to Jhang near Muzaffargarh. He said that the cleric had been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. Earlier in the day, as District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Ameer Ahmad Khan announced his decision on the application, the cleric fled the court with the help of lawyers. On Tuesday, Mufti Qavi appeared before the sessions court for the first time in connection with the murder case. On his lawyer’s request, the court had adjourned the hearing of the case until October 18. As the hearing went underway on Wednesday, the judge reserved his decision on the bail plea for a few minutes. During this period, a group of lawyers helped Mufti Qavi escape from the court, and he departed without talking to reporters. The judge later rejected the application for extension in the cleric’s pre-arrest bail.
