KARACHI: Questions are being raised over the alleged involvement of prime suspect Waseem, who is in custody of Punjab Police, in the serial knife attacks after another girl was stabbed on Monday.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Irfan Baloch, a girl was injured in a knife attack on Monday’s in Karachi’s FB Area.
He said that the girl aged around 15 years was sitting behind her brother on a motorbike when she was attacked her from behind.
“The nature of weapon used in the attack was different from the knife used in the incidents happened in the past,” he added.
According to the Gulberg Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdullah Memon, the victim was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors confirmed that she had a sharp object wound.
Jauharabad police, however, have registered a case against unidentified motorcyclist(s) on behalf of victim’s maternal uncle and initiated further investigation.
The victim’s uncle said that it was not an accident but it was an attack.
On the other hand, police officials said that they had obtained the footages recorded at the CCTV cameras installed in the area while the police were trying to trace and arrest suspect(s) with the help of CCTV footages.
Police investigators said that it was yet to be ascertained that if it was the same suspect, who had been involved in series of attacks on women in Gulshan-lqbal and its surrounding areas.
Station House Office (SHO) Salem Siddiqui said that they didn’t get any perfect clue from the CCTV footage, adding that it was the first such incident to have occurred in which a woman was targeted while riding along with his brother.
This is the second similar incident to have occurred in Central district as earlier a woman was stabbed and injured in North Nazimabad a few days ago.
So far at least 14 women have been injured in several incidents in parts of East district, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Dalmia, Rashid Minhas Road, Pehlwan Goth and PIB Colony.
Police have also issued suspect’s picture with brief details multiple times seeking help from the citizens, while also announced a reward money of Rs 1 million for citizens for helping police in tracing and arresting suspect(s).
The investigators, however, remained puzzle after the latest knife attack as the prime suspect, Waseem, had already been arrested in a joint venture by Punjab and Sindh police from Mandi Bahuddin a couple of days ago. Waseem is believed to be the prime suspect allegedly involved in attacks on women in Karachi.
