Police plan operation in katcha areas

SUKKUR: A cleanup operation against gangs involved in heinous crimes would be initiated by Sukkur police soon, it was announced.

This decision was taken by Sukkur SSP Amjad Shaikh, after three people were kidnapped and taken hostage.

The SSP said that a letter had been sent to Sindh government, detailing the activities of criminal gangs in katcha area of Sukkur, Ghotki, Kashmore and Shikarpur. The idea to conduct a cleanup operation was agreed by the police and now await the go ahead from higher authorities, the SSP said.

He hinted that armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and drone surveillance system would be used to carry out the successful operation.

Meanwhile, in an anti-encroachment operation initiated by Sukkur administration and Motorway Police, as many as 100 temporary and permanent structures on National Highway were demolished from Rohri Bypass to Ali Wahan toll plaza. Commissioner Muhammad Usman Chachar instructed Rohri Assistant Commissioner Sonia Kaleem Malik to dislodge all encroachments within the limits of the highway.
