UNICEF Pakistan’s National Ambassador for children’s rights, Saba Qamar, recently met with German Consul General Dr Rudiger Lotz to discuss pressing issues related to children’s rights and the environment in Pakistan.

The meeting underscored the importance of involving the youth in addressing these challenges.

Qamar emphasised the need for youth engagement, stating, “Children’s rights and environmental issues can be resolved by engaging the youth of this country.”

Dr Lotz expressed Germany’s strong support for children’s rights, praising Pakistan’s progress while also stressing the global significance of environmental issues like global warming. “Everyone has to play a role in preventing it,” he said.

A key focus of the meeting was the “Make Karachi Green” campaign, led by the German Consulate General in Karachi to promote tree planting and raise environmental awareness.

Anja Klos, Consul at the German Consulate General, briefed Qamar on the initiative, which aims to educate schoolchildren about the importance of trees and climate change. To support the campaign, Dr Lotz provided tree seeds to Qamar and invited Karachi’s citizens to join in the efforts. Germany has long supported UNICEF’s work in Pakistan, contributing to advancements in both child rights.
