SUKKUR: Sukkur IBA University Department of Education organised World Space Week in collaboration with SUPARCO under theme of ‘Exploring New Worlds’.
Students of Sukkur IBA University, its community colleges, Public School Sukkur and government schools participated in various events and showed a keen interest in the events organised that included: space quiz competitions, space spelling competitions, opening of space stations, debate competitions, solar observation and space bus shows. SUPARCO Technical Director Amir Ahmed Khan apprised the student about space, galaxy, solar system, stars and astronomy.
The space week was organised by Education Science Technology Innovation and Research (ESTIR) Club of Sukkur IBA University. Sukkur IBA University Vice Chancellor Zahid Hussain Khan, appreciating the role of ESTIR Club in raising awareness among students regarding space and solar system, was of the view that the future belonged to space and satellites.
He urged students to switchover to space science to further brighten their future. He lauded efforts of Assistant Professor Unaeza Alvi, founder and patron in chief of ESTIR Club. Uneaza said that purpose of the space week was to teach students about space. She said that during space week, students were given the opportunity for solar observation, night gazing of moon and its craters and stars and planets.
The quiz competition was won by IBA Community College Khairpur, Public School Sukkur secured second position and there was a tie for third position between IBA Community College Jacobabad and Gulshan Sindhi School. In the debate competition, Public School Sukkur’s Laiba clinched first position, Shayan of Public School Larkana secured second position and Azir of IBA Community College Naushahro Feroze got third position.
