KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday turned down post-arrest bail application filed by former Sindh Police assistant inspector general (Finance) Fida Hussain in a case pertaining to Rs50 million corruption in the Sindh Police Department.
Hussain along with other officers was booked in a reference for allegedly causing a loss to the national exchequer by misusing their authority. It was alleged in the reference that the police officers had embezzled Rs 50million, meant to pay fuel charges and make special security arrangements for Muharram, and credited the same into the account of a head constable.
Hussain through his counsel moved the bail application and submitted that the charges levelled against him were baseless. However, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor opposed the bail application, informing the court that the Rs 50 million graft reference had been filed in an accountability court.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the SHC dismissed the bail application and directed the trial court to decide the matter at the earliest.
It was pertinent to mention here that the Supreme Court and the SHC had earlier dismissed his pre-arrest bail applications.
