5 arrested after Landi Kotal cantonment attack

KHYBER AGENCY: Following an attack by unidentified militants at a cantonment, security agencies carried out a door-to-door search operation in Ashraf Khel Landi Kotal, in the early hours of Thursday.

A security official briefed that unidentified assailants earlier hurled two grenades at a cantonment. However, there were no casualties as the grenade landed in a deserted area, he said. After the incident, security forces launched a search operation in Ashraf Khel and arrested 5 locals for investigation, the official added.

1 dead, two injured in accident: Conductor of a truck died while two others sustained injuries in a fire that erupted after a vehicle carrying a repatriating Afghan family turned over on its way to Torkham border. Political Naib Tehsildar Shams-ul- Islam, while sharing details of the accident, said the ill-fated truck was on its way to Torkham border when the truck turned over, while negotiating a deadly curve.

Conductor of the truck, an Afghan national, burnt to death whereas two members of the repatriated family were injured and transported to Landi Kotal Hospital. The injured were referred to Peshawar Hospital due to their precarious condition, hospital sources said.

The truck was completely destroyed along with the luggage of the repatriated family, an official said.
