CM Maryam, ADB director discuss clean energy, welfare projects

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif met Country Director for Pakistan Resident Mission of Asian Development Bank Dr. Emma Xiaoqin Fan to discuss ongoing development projects, strengthening of economy, providing cooperation for improving basic infrastructure along with enhancing cooperation in agriculture, health, education, environmental cooperation and digital development.

Matters pertaining to ‘Jalalpur Irrigation Project’ and ‘Clean Energy’ came under discussion. Country Director Asian Development Bank Dr. Emma Xiaoqin Fan, appreciated steps being undertaken by the Punjab government for women empowerment and other public welfare initiatives.

The Chief Minister appreciated financial and technical support of Asian Development Bank in various projects of Punjab. She while speaking on the occasion said, “ADB’s cooperation is playing a pivotal role for prosperity of the people and restoration of national economy.”

She added, “The Punjab government is moving forward under a comprehensive plan to attain socio-economic development. Collaboration with the Asian Development Bank will further strengthen development objectives in Punjab.”

Country Director for Pakistan Resident Mission of Asian Development Bank Dr. Emma Xiaoqin Fan said, “Asian Development Bank is keen to further expand its cooperation with Pakistan, especially Punjab. Punjab’s climate policy will prove to be beneficial for the environment and national economy.

“It is regrettable that more than 20 police personnel including SP, DSP and SHO have been injured in attacks,” said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif while expressing a deep sense of grief over acts of firing on officers and officials of Punjab police and police check posts.

Madam Chief Minister said, “The protesters were also seen with short machine guns, tear gas, knives and masks etc.” She added, “The protesters used such weapons in their attacks on Punjab police that only police have in their possession.” She highlighted, “Shots was fired at Ghazi Barutha, Mianwali, Hazara Motorway and other places.”

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “Punjab police has been kept unarmed to avoid clashes. It is still unarmed.” She noted, “In their previous protest, a constable was martyred and more than 25 were injured.” She underscored, “Attack by police force of one province on that of another province using government resources is tantamount to tarnishing national unity.”

Madam Chief Minister enquired, “What kind of protest is this where government resources are used?” She said, “Instead of a protest, this movement is an attempt of armed terrorism.”

“Women are my red line, violence or cruelty against them is absolutely not tolerable,” said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her message on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. She added, “The honor of mothers, sisters and daughters is a part of our social traditions and religious values.”

Madam Chief Minister said, “For the first time in history, Islam gave orders to give women complete respect and rights.” She added, “The honor and respect of women, including daughters and sisters, is the Sunnah of our beloved Holy Prophet (SAW).” She highlighted, “In the Holy Quran and Sunnah, it is not only forbidden to raise hand on women but also to be gentle towards them.”

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “Those who commit violence against women are cowards and criminals, they will be dealt with iron hands.” She added, “Women’s protection is the top priority of Punjab government.”

Madam Chief Minister said, “Punjab has the honor of establishing a virtual women’s police station for the first time.” She added, “Women in trouble can file complaints with the virtual police station.” She underscored, “Women can get immediate police help in an emergency by pressing the panic button.”

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “Police Helpline for women is also fully functional.” She added, “Punjab Government is fully committed to protecting women and upholding their rights.” She flagged, “A violence-free, safe and equal society for women guarantees progress.”
