LAHORE: A woman was stabbed with a knife by an unidentified attacker on a motorcycle in the vicinity of a housing society in Lahore on Thursday.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that she was making her way back from a park within the housing society when the attacker made advances towards her.

She claimed that she fell to the ground, but couldn’t feel any pain; the people surrounding her informed her that she is bleeding. The survivor received a total of 22 stitches when she was taken to a nearby hospital.

The woman had arrived in Lahore from Saudi Arabia three-days ago to attend her son’s marriage.

The survivor’s family claimed that they will not pursue the case because they want to avoid unwarranted attention. No complaint was filed with the police.

The attack is closely timed and comes hand in hand with a series of similar incidents that have taken place in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulshan-e-Jamal localities.

Dating back to October 7, a 25-year-old woman was attacked with knives by two unidentified men in Gujranwala.

The victim was injured while she was standing outside her house after the attackers stabbed her with knives and made their escape riding away on a motorcycle.

She was admitted to Civil Hospital soon after the incident took place.

“The victim’s husband was involved in a financial transaction that may have gone awry,” commented DSP Raza Awan, adding that, “The incident’s motive could be animosity.”

Even after 18 days, the unidentified attacker still remains at large in Karachi.

The police have arrested 35 suspects so far but set them free after they were unable to link them to the attacks. The attacker remains untraced.

Occurring from between September 25 to October 5, thirteen cases of knife attacks have been registered by the police and Counter-Terrorism Department).

Police have issued CCTV footage along with physical details of the attacker, along with the announcement of a Rs 1 million award to anyone who may help with his arrest.
