The Chief Minister has increased the number of Kissan cards from 500,000 to 750,000 as over 1.2 million applications have been received through the portal for Kissan card. Department of Agriculture official sources told APP that the Bank of Punjab has approved 487,000 applications, while farmers have received more than 361000 cards. It may be mentioned here that farmers have purchased their required items and equipment worth Rs.18 billion so far through Kissan card. Kissan card will be a game-changer for agricultural development and prosperity of farmers. Farmers can purchase seeds, fertilizers and agricultural medicines through the card. Meanwhile, farmers of non-computerised fields will also be eligible for Kissan Card. It is worth mentioning here that ‘Kissan Cards’ are issued to registered farmers to facilitate them and provide benefits from various government schemes like subsidies, loans, insurance etc. Moreover, farmers having this card will have an added convenience to use it on ATMs or debit at the point of purchase at a fertilizer dealer shop.
