IMF team, Pakistan to discuss mini-budget for additional taxes

Author:

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation is set to arrive in Pakistan today, with formal talks commencing tomorrow. The government is gearing up to present an overview of the country’s economic performance for the first quarter of the current fiscal year. According to Finance Ministry sources, the IMF team will remain in Pakistan until November 15.

Sources indicate that the government is preparing for negotiations with the IMF, which could include outlining a potential mini-budget. During the visit, the IMF delegation will receive updates on tax revenue performance, business-friendly initiatives, and reforms in the energy sector. Discussions are also expected to touch on features of a possible mini-budget aimed at achieving the annual tax target.

The IMF will also be briefed on progress towards implementing an agricultural income tax at the provincial level, though sources suggest that provincial governments have missed the October deadline for enacting the legislation.
