Over 8,000 suspects nabbed in Islamabad’s anti-crime drive

In a significant move to strengthen security in the federal capital, the Islamabad Police have arrested over 8,000 accused involved in different criminal activities, Daily Times has learnt reliably.

As per available data based information, the police have recovered cash and valuables worth over Rs 1603.6 million from the possession of arrested accused. Moreover, 1,401 accused of 594 gangs involved in robbery activities were also arrested

Aftermath of surge in big robberies in the city in last few months, the authorities concerned in the police decided to take strict action against the criminals. Subsequently, the police carried out an extensive crackdown against trouble makers and arrested 18,105 accused in last ten months.

A police official said that during the ongoing “Nasha ab Nahi” movement in the federal capital, a total of 1,663 drug dealers were arrested, and 392 kilograms of hashish, 485 kilograms of heroin, 29 kilograms of ice, 15091 liters of liquor, and intoxicating pills were recovered from their possession, while 44 accused involved drug peddling in educational institutes were arrested and 16 kilo gram of hashish, 12 kilo gram of heroin, 27 kilogram of ice and 251 liters of liquor recovered from their possession.

Additionally, 3708 accused involved in tempering activities and property crimes such as theft, robbery, burglary, vehicles, and motorcycle theft were arrested. Police teams also recovered cash, vehicles and motorcycles from their possession.

The Islamabad Police also carried out extensive operations against those possessing illegal weapons, and arrested 1,803 accused and recovered 111 rifles, 33 carbines, 1,471 pistols and 219 daggers from their possession.

Similarly, during various operations against professional beggars and their facilitators throughout the city 5,329 individuals were arrested.

The Police also conducted indiscriminate operations against proclaimed offenders, court fugitives and target offenders and arrested 5,454 accused.

DIG Islamabad Syed Ali Raza said in stamen that the Islamabad Police is also utilizing all available resources to ensure the eradication of drug dealers and criminal elements from the federal capital.

He further said that the Islamabad Police will bring those involved in the heinous crime of drug and alcohol trafficking to justice.

The DIG urged the citizens are urged to immediately report drug peddlers, suspicious individuals or activities to their respective police stations, the emergency helpline “Pukar” 15.

Meanwhile, according to an official statement of the Islamabad police, Lohi Bher police station team arrested two wanted members of the snatcher gang involved in numerous snatching activities in various areas of twin cities.

The statement said that the police team used technical and human resources and succeeded in apprehending two wanted members of the snatcher gang. The gang was involved in criminal activities in the premises of twin cities.

The accused were identified as Jameel Khan and Abdullah. Police team also recovered the snatched cash, foreign currency, mobile phones, valuables, motorbikes and weapons used in crime from their possession. Cases were registered against the nabbed accused and further investigation is underway.
