As smog levels continue to rise, the government is contemplating the closure of all remaining middle and high schools-both public and private-throughout Lahore.

According to the report, Lahore has been ranked the world’s most polluted city for the past three weeks. Due to dangerously high air pollution, primary schools have already been shut down.

The channel also reported that, aiming to curb emissions, the Punjab government has imposed a ban on heavy vehicles entering the city on Fridays and Sundays.

On Monday morning, the air quality in Lahore reached hazardous levels, with an overall AQI of 414. Specific areas recorded alarming figures, such as DHA Phase 8 with an AQI of 714, Syed Maratib Ali Road at 569, the US Consulate at 424, and Askari 10 at 404.

Meanwhile, in Narowal, farmers continue burning leftover crop stubble, a major factor in escalating smog. The smoke from these fires has led to an increase in respiratory and skin illnesses among local residents.

Narowal authorities stated that they take action upon receiving reports but have also issued a stern warning to farmers to stop this illegal activity or face severe penalties.

Concerned citizens are calling on the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and the district administration of Narowal to take strict action against the violators.
