ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar took notice of an incident involving the rape of a 17-year-old girl which was reportedly ‘ordered’ by a village council.
Authorities state that the CJP has asked Punjab’s Inspector General (IG) to submit a report regarding the incident.
Police sources report that a Panchayat (council) was convened in which at least 40 men present after a man raped a 12-year-old girl on July 16 while cutting grass in a field.
A few days later the council ordered the affected girl’s brother to rape the rapist’s 17-year-old sister.
It was also reported that the 17-year-old girl was reportedly dragged to the area where the meeting was being held, and raped in front of several men and in the presence of her parents.
20 people have been detained in connection with this incident after the First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Muzaffarabad police station.
On July 24 a second FIR was filed by the first victim’s family.
