SUKKUR: Measles (chickenpox) outbreak in Rohri and its adjoining areas claimed lives of five children, including Azra aged 5 and Gulshin Meerani aged 4.
Hundreds of affected children have also been brought to Rohri taluka hospital. The parents blamed district health department for lapse in carrying out vaccination drive which according to them could have prevented this outbreak. Dilshad Meerani told that due to poor performance of Sukkur health department, our children had been badly affected with ailment.
Even health department team did not reach to areas to get children vaccinated. Dr Waseem Shaikh said that measles remained a severe decease that could only be prevented by vaccination of child in first nine months of his age and later a booster again in 15 months. Chickenpox is a communicable disease which can spread from one child to the other through touch.
