KARACHI: A gang of robbers looted a branch of a private bank in old city area on Tuesday morning. The robbers also took away a weapon from a security guard with them while leaving a bank after committing a robbery. The police has detained five bank employees including a branch manager for investigations.
The robbery took place as the robbers entered a branch of the Apna Microfinance Bank’s Kharadar branch within the limits of Napier police station. Police officials have informed that the robbers entered the bank at around 8:35 in the morning. The three robbers who had arrived the bank on a motorcycle , held the cashier hostage at gunpoint after entering the bank and looted Rs 600,000 cash from the cash counter.
SHO Zafar Iqbal said that the robbers also looted gold from the bank while they also took a weapon from a security guard away with them while fleeing after committing the crime. Following the incident, officials from the Criminal Investigation Agency, Counter-Terrorism Department and district police reached the site and collected the evidences.
SHO Iqbal has informed that the bank has been looted with a proper planning, adding that the police has doubts that the bank staffers were also involved in the robbery.
The robbery occurred before the opening of the bank when only the bank manager, Anwar and a security guard were presented at a bank. The officer said that the police have detained five bank staffers including a manager for questioning. No case has been registered till the filing of this news story.
