ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday alleged that Ayesha Gulalai took Rs 50 million for holding a press conference against party chairman Imran Khan.

Gulalai, an MNA of the PTI on reserved seat, had on Tuesday announced to leave the party after levelling serious moral allegations against Kaptaan.

Chaudhry and other PTI leaders at a press conference said Gulalai was used as a pawn by the political opponents for the skip[per’s character assassination. He demanded Gulalai to step down from her National Assembly seat. “If you will not leave, party will approach Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to get you de-notified,” Fawad said.

Fawad stated that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was still acting as president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He demanded that the ECP must issue a notification disqualifying Nawaz Sharif from party presidency as well.

“PML-N currently is an illegal party. We don’t understand why has ECP not de-notified [Nawaz] from party presidency,” he said.

He blamed PML-N for character assassination of opponents while citing the doctored images of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders Nusrat Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto in 1987-88.

The PTI leader questioned how Rs 880 million were transferred into Maryam Nawaz’s account in a single night.

PTI leader Alia Hamza rebutted allegations, saying she is part of the core committee and is respected in the party.
