Malir 15 flyover, a dilemma for Karachiites

KARACHI: The recent rainfall in the city has shattered most of the old as well as newly-built bridges and roads infrastructure, exposing tall claims made by the government.

The Malir 15 Flyover, named after Abdullah Murad, which connects Malir 15 bus stop to Millat Bakery, was inaugurated on February 08, 2016, by former chief minister Qaim Ali Shah. The recent monsoon rains have exposed the quality of construction and the material used since the concerned officials did not even bother to check the use of substandard material by the contractors.

“Substandard formation was used without any fear while the officials who are responsible to ensure quality work reported that everything is fine”, a biker making way through the shattered road said.

A resident of the area, Barkat Ali, viewed the quality of the constructed flyover extremely poor. “There is a big crater in the flyover’s ramp, going towards the airport”, he added

Aijaz, whose shop is located just opposite the front of the bridge, is witness to many of the accidents that occur due to the poor state of the road. “I vitness accidents happening here on daily basis due to these craters as fast moving vehicles get slammed with each other”, he observed.

On the other hand the remaining portion of the flyover has not been completed yet , which is to be completed after so much passage of time which is also createing problems for commuters as well as local traders.

“The construction of this flyover, has continued for several years, which has compounded our miseries and brought us into huge business loss”, owner of hardware shop lamented.

The environment of the area also adds to the hardship of locals. “The condition of the road and dust in the air does not let customers stop here which is making us suffer financially”, a fruit vendor complained.
