ISLAMABAD: Newly-elected Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi received guard of honour marking his arrival at the PM house on Thursday.
The PM was elected after receiving 221 votes from the National Assembly out of a total 339, overcoming Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Naveed Qamar and Pakistan Tehreeke Insaf (PTI) candidate Sheikh Rasheed comfortably on Tuesday, also taking oath as PM later in the evening.
The election for new premiership was held after former PM Nawaz Sharif was ousted by the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on July 28.
Abbasi, while delivering his speech at NA on Tuesday, said that he would continue policies of Nawaz Sharif, as he is here not only to complete his 45 day tenure, but to produce remarkable results.
