MADRID: Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo dismissed accusations of having committed tax evasion or fraud in his appearance at a court in Spanish capital, foreign news agency said on Friday.

While standing before the judge, Ronaldo said that he has never faced such an issue during his time in England with Manchester United, adding that his unfair treatment in Spain is reason why he wants to return to the United Kingdom (UK).

“I always paid my taxes, always. In England and In Spain. And I always  paid. As you know, I can not hide anything, it would be ridiculous on my part to do such a thing. I am an open book. In England, I never had these problems, that’s why I want to go back there,” Cristiano said.

During the proceedings that lasted an hour and 25 minutes, Ronaldo responded to questions from Judge Mónica Gómez Ferrer, continuously stating that he is innocent of any wrongdoing.

“I paid everything in 2014. I don’t understand anything about this, I only went to school until my sixth year and the only thing I know how to do is play football well,” Ronaldo continued.

The Portuguese superstar further stated that he leaves his financial matters to agent, Jorge Mendes, and advisory, adding that they work with utmost honesty and dedication.

“I trust my advisors and they are the best. I pay them well and they do good things and I leave everything in their hands.”

Ronaldo did not take part in Real Madrid’s preseason fixtures, but is expected to join the team later this month.
