Outdated X-ray machines in use at CMCH, meeting told

LARKANA: Outdated X-ray machines have been in use at Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and not a single computerised machine has so far been purchased, Dr Farooq Shaikh, head of Radiology Department informed Hospital Management Board meeting.

Vice Chancellor Benazir Bhutto Medical University Prof Dr Ghulam Asghar Channa and Commissioner Larkana, Abbas Balochand also attended the meeting.

If paramedics refuse to work then they cannot take any action against them because they are under medical Superintendent. Head of Surgery Department Prof K Das said that they have been given operation theatre complex but not a single machine or equipment has so far been made functional due to which equipment would become rusted.

The staff is working under Medical Superintendent whereas professors work under Benazir Bhutto Medical University.

Head Department Neuro-Surgery Prof Akbar Bhand said that ground floor of new Neuro-Science Complex has been encroached upon by various departments and equipment purchased for complex for million of rupees have been lying useless and for which they had never been consulted.

He said OT light purchased at Rs 4 million has gone out of order within ten days.

Dr Shahida Magsi said that overhead bridge was being built near Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women which has caused tremendous hazards for ailing women for deliveries from far flung areas travelling through dust and bumpy roads.

AMS Dr Irshad Morio said PG doctors did not attend casualty during their respective emergency days due to which emergency patients suffered seriously. All participants were of the view that close circuit cameras should be installed in all wards and departments so that medics and paramedics could be monitored.

Abbas Baloch asked them to provide lists of contractors/suppliers who have supplied substandard equipment so that they could be blacklisted through government.

He said all should feel their responsibilities and discharge them with zest instead of blaming each others.

Channa said that it has been complained that professors have not been working properly but data was showing that 7,000 operations have been done in Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women during last six months.

He said that hospital administration wanted that professors should work under them, which was impossible. He claimed with their endeavours cleanliness has improved in Hospital and blamed CMCH authorities that they were not doing their part of job properly. Registrar Dr Afsar Bhutto, Mayor Aslam Shaikh, Dr Ilyas Shaikh, Dr Rafia Baloch, Dr. Abdul Halim Shaikh, Dr Ghulam Murtaza Pathan and others participated in the meeting.
