ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday reserved its verdict on a petition seeking court’s declaration that National Assembly’s committee constituted to probe into the issue of PTI’s former MNA Ayesha Gulalai was unlawful. A single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Aaamer Farooq reserved the verdict.

The petition filed by Riaz Hanif Rahi contended that the forum of National Assembly was meant to discuss public issues only and the matters like that of Ayesha Gulalai may not be discussed there. The petitioner, who made National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, MNA Ayesha Gulalai, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Islamabad Police inspector general as respondents, contended that the committee formed to probe the issue was illegal and unlawful. The petitioner stated that the former member of PTI has claimed that PTI chairman sent her unethical messages but she did not make text of those messages public. He said the prime minister announced the formation of the committee and National Assembly speaker formed it to probe the matter, which was unlawful.
