LAHORE: As many as 582 charge nurses have assumed their duties at the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) after their selection through the Punjab Public Service Commission.

“The recruitment of the nurses has not only provided employment to hundreds of families but it would go a long way to enhance the standard of health care in the hospital,” said Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Prof Ghiyasun Nabi Tayyab and LGH Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Ghulam Sabir while talking to the media on Wednesday.

They directed the nursing administration to arrange lectures for the newly recruited nurses on a daily basis to sensitise them to government’s health policies, infection control, campaign against dengue, polio and other diseases. They said that educational documents of newly selected nurses would also be verified from their respective educational boards concerned at the earliest.

Prof Tayyab added that for the first time in the history of Pakistan, nurses had been recruited through the Punjab Public Service Commission. “The Punjab government is aimed at ensuring merit and uphold transparency,” he said.

“As nurses play a vital role in the healthcare system, therefore, the Punjab government has taken revolutionary steps for their welfare and educational uplift.

The principal said that it was the responsibility of nurses to work with dedication and devotion to help ailing humanity and tamper the expectations of the government, masses, patients and their attendants. The principal hoped that newly recruited nurses would prove to be a precious asset for LGH by virtue of their excellent performance, professional commitment and attitude.
