LARKANA: The flood fighting work has been intensified at Moria Loop Bund, near here after increasing water level in Indus River, which has also washed away 30 to 50 feet under construction apron being built to change water direction.

The erosion was continuing fast and dyke has been declared sensitive whenever flood-like situation would surface.

No proper planned work has been carried out and every year funds are going wasted. The irrigation department officials have accelerated their efforts to stop further erosion.

Bag-packed stone work was being carried out to halt further erosion. Mukhtiar Abro irrigation superintendent Engineer told that water has eroded apron whereas it was flowing with dyke at Hakra Loop Bund and at the spurs of Akil-Agani Loop Bund.

He said water discharge from Sukkur was currently 380,312 cusecs and downstream it was 322,557 cusecs.

Water flow will likely to increase on Friday and may hit 390,000 cusecs and will start receding afterAugust 12.

Abro said that work at requisite dykes was being carried out by contractor on credit basis and so far neither Sindh government nor federal government has provided any single penny. He said irrigation officials have been alert and were guarding situation round the clock.
