Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has confessed to his role in instigating the events of May 9, and now he should be punished for his crimes.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday she described the PTI founder’s statement as a moment of guilt, witnessed by the entire nation. She alleged that the PTI founder had repeatedly attacked the state institutions since 2014, including an assault on the PTV.

She called for accountability, asserting that the PTI leader manipulated the RTS system to rig the 2018 elections, thereby imposing his leadership on the country. She also accused him of engaging in digital terrorism, damaging the nation’s reputation through foreign conspiracies, and advising the IMF against providing financial assistance to Pakistan in 2022, pushing the country towards economic hardship.

The minister labeled May 9 as a dark day in the country’s history, accusing the PTI of inciting violence and targeting government properties. She criticised the party for allegedly using social media to spread misinformation and for the PTI founder’s alleged involvement in directing followers to attack state institutions. The minister insisted that the law must apply equally to all, and those responsible for such actions should face strict consequences. She concluded by praising the leadership of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Maryam Nawaz Sharif, expressing confidence in the government’s ability to provide relief to people and prevent future acts of terrorism.
