Kashf Foundation has innovatively produced television campaigns that address and raise awareness on important social issues, stimulate dialogue and debate around them and most importantly, convey a message of hope and positivity among viewers.
The new mini-series ‘Aakhri Station’, comprising of seven episodes is no different and the drama aims to highlight women and gender specific issues in a sensitive and realistic manner.
Based on real life stories and narratives, the series develops seven strong female characters that are not shown as victims but as protagonists who deal with harsh circumstances. Kashf’s television series have always been based on real life examples and the script is developed after several creative workshops.
“Women are not helpless or weak- neither should they be considered as such. ‘Aakhri Station’ represents those women who have defeated all odds and emerged stronger than before. This show will be a role model for women to emulate,” says Asghar Nadeem Syed who was part of the script development workshops.
Directed by Sarmad Khoosat and written by Amina Mufti, the mini-series hopes to keep the audience entertained and instill empathy for these survivors.
“Writing ‘Aakhri Station’ was a profoundly moving and emotional experience for me. These are not just 7 stories but 7 harsh realities that the society itself must face. Kashf Foundation and I are merely reflecting these sad realities in the hope that the aggressors may someday realise the damage they have caused. If not today, them some day,” addresses Amina Mufti. The seven protagonists are unrelated to each other but all are on a journey of empowerment. In their chance meeting in a train compartment, they find out how similar their stories are despite their age/background differences. The series includes acclaimed actors including Sanam Saeed, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Nimra Bucha, Malika Zafar along with a few new faces. The lead protagonist is Sanam Saeed playing the role of a woman battling depression.
