Tough challenges as nation celebrates Independence Day

ISLAMABAD: The nation is all set to celebrate its 70th Independence Day today (Monday) with traditional fervour. The day will start with a thirty-one gun salute in the federal capital and twenty-one gun salutes in provincial capitals.

The main event of the day will be flag hoisting ceremony at the Convention Centre. President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yong will jointly unfurl the national flag. Wang Yang is in Pakistan, along with a delegation, to attend Independence Day ceremonies.

General Qamar Bajwa hoisted the highest flag (400 foot) at Wahga border at 12am. The flag is 120 foot long and 40 foot wide.
