KARACHI: Pakistan Customs claim to have foiled a smuggling bid of gold from abroad to Karachi. The action was taken by the Preventive staff of the Pakistan Customs posted at the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.
Customs spokesperson said that the action was taken by Custom officials after deputy collector Customs Yousuf Ali Khan was tipped off about smuggling of gold. “We had a tipped off about arrival of three passengers with the smuggled gold,” said the Customs spokesperson.
The passengers had arrived from a Dubai bound Emirate airline flight EK-602. “Finally we intercepted those passengers and foiled the smuggling bid.”
The Customs officials intercepted the three passengers and recovered smuggled gold and memory cards. The passengers intercepted and later arrested were identified as Muhammad Imran, Anila Haroon and Maheen Patel.
The Custom officials also claim to have recovered a huge cache of gold and memory cards from their possesion.
The spokesperson claimed that a total five kilogrammes of gold jewellery worth nearly Rs 20 million and 24000 memory cards worth rupees Rs 2.5 million were recovered during their physical checking.
