KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department Sindh has claimed to have busted a network of Afghan Intelligence Agency NDS in Karachi by killing at least two suspect militants belonging to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) including a newly appointed commander on Tuesday in Manghopir area of Karachi.

CTD officials have claimed that the killed militants have linked to the Afghanistan’s spy agency – NDS and were deputed for destructive motives from Karachi to Baluchistan.

CTD Intelligence officer SSP Omar Shahid Hamid said that Abdul Jabbar and Daniyal were killed in an exchange of fire after police intercepted their vehicle in Manghopir.

According to SSP Hamid, Abdul Jabbar, who had been appointed as commander of the banned outfit’s Karachi chapter by ring leader Mufti Shakir, had links to the Afghan intelligence agency, NDS.

Last week, CTD had busted two ‘sleeper cells’ of banned militant outfits in Karachi by killing three members of the sleeper cells and arrested four others during separate pre dawn raids in parts of the metropolis.

An Afghanistan intelligence agency-backed militant group had assigned the killed and arrested militants to carry out reconnaissance for their upcoming targets in Karachi before dispatching suicide bombers.

SSP Shahid said that they acted upon information received from militants arrested last week. “We had a tip off that the militants are on their way to Karachi from Baluchistan”.

“The militants were arriving in the city to carryout major terror activities including targeting Jamaat Khanas, Imambargahs, shrines, police training centers and prominent figures from other intelligence agencies.” The militants were provided with suicide bombers and jackets.

One of their companions, however, managed to escape under the cover of fire during the exchange of fire.

The CTD police also claimed to have recovered two pistols from their possession. The pistols recovered from their possession had earlier been used in the targeted killing of a police’s sub-inspector Riaz in Saeedabad area last year. Cases were registered and further investigation was underway.

A source within Counter Terrorism Department told Daily Times that this was a huge break thorough in terms of foraging network of terrorism headed by afghan Intelligence Agency as recent encounter has provided undeniable proves and evidences of these activities.
